UK Prize competition terms and conditions

  1. The competition

    1. The title of the competition is Hexham Poetry Launch.

  2. How to enter

    1. Competition dates

The competition will run from 12:00pm on 11/5/23 (the "Opening Date") to 12:00pm on 16/5/23 (the "Closing Date") inclusive.

    1. Competition entry deadline

All competition entries must be received by the Promoter [at the address set out at condition 1] no later than 12:00pm on the Closing Date. All entries received after the Closing Date are automatically disqualified.

responsibility for competition entries that are lost, mislaid, damaged or delayed in transit, regardless of cause, including, for example, as a result of any postal failure, equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind; or 

      1. Proof of receipt

Proof of posting or transmission as proof of receipt of entry to the competition.

    1. Judging criteria

A judge at Hexham Poetry will choose the competition entries. Their decision will be final, and no further correspondence will be entered into. 

  1. Eligibility

    1. Competition residents

The competition is only open to all residents in the UK [aged 18 years or over], except:

    1. employees of the Promoter or its holding or subsidiary companies;

    2. Promoter's employees

employees of agents or suppliers of the Promoter or its holding or subsidiary companies, who are professionally connected with the competition or its administration; or

      1. Family members

Members of the immediate families or households of (a) and (b) above.

    1. Eligibility to enter

In order to enter the competition, you confirm that you are eligible and eligible to claim any prize that may be awarded. The Promoter may require proof of eligibility in order to enter the competition.

    1. [The Promoter will not accept competition entries that are:

      1. automatically generated by computer;

      2. completed by third parties or in bulk;

      3. illegible, have been altered, reconstructed, forged or tampered with;

      4. photocopies and not originals; or

      5. incomplete.]

    2. Limit of one entry

There is a limit of one entry per person. [Entries on behalf of another person will not be accepted and joint submissions are not allowed.]

    1. Disqualification

[The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify you if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of this prize competition.]

  1. The prize

    1. Number of prizes

One prize of two tickets to the Hexham Poetry Launch held at Hexham Library and one night's stay for two people (plus breakfast) at The Beaumont Hotel in Hexham on 17th May 2023.

    1. Prize substitution

Prizes are subject to availability. The launch tickets and hotel stay are available and redeemable only on 17th May 2023.  There is no cash alternative for the prize.

    1. Prize supplier

The prize is supplied by Hexham Poetry (the "Supplier"). The Promoter reserves the right to replace the prize with an alternative prize of equal or higher value if circumstances beyond its control make it necessary to do so. 

    1. The prize is not negotiable or transferable.

    2. Claiming prize

In order to claim the prize, you must contact editor@hexhampoetry.com however, the promoter will attempt to contact the winner on the day the competition closes. 

  1. Winners

    1. Final decision

The decision of the Promoter or the judges nominated by the Promoter is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.

    1. Contact the winner

The Promoter will contact the winner personally as soon as practicable after the Announcement Date, using the telephone number or email address provided with the competition entry. [The Promoter will not amend any contact information once the competition entry form has been submitted.]

    1. Publishing winners

The Promoter must publish or make available information that indicates that a valid award took place. 

    1. Objections to publication

If you object to any or all of your surname, county and winning entry being published or made available, please contact the Promoter. In such circumstances, the Promoter must still provide the information and winning entry to the Advertising Standards Authority on request.

  1. Claiming the prize

Please claim the prize as soon as is possible and by 12:00pm on the 17th May 2023. 

    1. Third-party claims

The prize cannot be claimed by a third party on your behalf.

    1. Claiming prize

If the winner cannot be contacted or is not available, or has not claimed their prize by 12:00pm on 17th May 2023 then the Promoter reserves the right to offer the prize to an eligible entrant selected from among those entries that were received before the Closing Date.

    1. Promoter not responsible

The Promoter does not accept any responsibility if you are not able to take up the prize.

  1. Limitation of liability

[Insofar as is permitted by law, the Promoter, its agents or distributors will not be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize except where it is caused by the negligence of the Promoter, its agents or distributors (whether acting in their individual capacity or as part of a group) or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.]

  1. Ownership of competition entries and intellectual property rights

    1. Competition entry

All competition entries and any accompanying material submitted to the Promoter will become the property of the Promoter on receipt and will not be returned OR The Promoter does not claim any rights of ownership in your competition entry.

By submitting your competition entry and any accompanying material, you agree to:

    1. Assign intellectual property

assign to the Promoter all your intellectual property rights with full title guarantee; and

      1. waive all moral rights,

in and to your competition entry and otherwise arising in connection with your entry to which you may now or at any time in the future be entitled under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 as amended from time to time and under all similar legislation from time to time in force anywhere in the world.]

    1. Competition entry

You agree that the Promoter may, but is not required to, make your entry available on its website www.hexhampoetry.com and www.hexham-courant.coo.uk and any other media, whether now known or invented in the future, and in connection with any publicity of the competition. You agree to grant the Promoter a non-exclusive, worldwide (for a period of 5 years), irrevocable licence to use, display, publish (including transmitting and copying), copy (including altering), store (including re-formatting) and sublicense the competition entry [and any accompanying materials] for such purposes.]

  1. Data protection and publicity

    1. Personal information

The Promoter will only process your personal information as set out in their Privacy Policy. See also condition 6.3 and condition 6.4, with regard to the announcement of winners.

  1. General

    1. Breach of terms

If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, the Promoter may, at its sole discretion, suspend or terminate your participation in the competition.

    1. Promoter's right

If it becomes necessary to do so, the Promoter reserves the right to void, suspend, cancel or amend the prize competition.

    1. Governing law

These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law, and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
